Conversion of the existing navigation system is achieved normally thru bypassing parts of the original navigation computer system - typically located in the boot, and fitting new navigation hardware hidden out-of-sight in the same location or close-by. Installing UK mapping discs, re-programming hardware or converting the existing in-built GPS parts is not the usual conversion procedure.

Aftermarket conversion does not change other systems in the vehicle, such as TV Tuners or Radios to English. Usual Hifi operation is maintained and unaffected by the installation, like-wise, the normal on-screen display of vehicle information such as air-conditioning status is still available to the user.

Typical installation costs are from £249 plus GPS navigation hardware and sundry items (such as Video converters and Audio switchers). Although we normally need your vehicle for a day, for the conversion installation, some pre-installation work is need to adapt hardware to the chosen Japanese Import prior to your vehicle arrival.

Navigation hardware fitted can exceed the specification of the OEM (original equipment manufacture) unit with additional options such as TMC (Traffic message channel)  and voice operation of POI search. Remote control is normally used to control the aftermarket navigation system allowing greater flexibility of use.

TMC offers the user instant access to motoring information and delays in the vicinity of travel. The TMC protocol uses the FM radio network to receive these real-time traffic data casts. This information is then offered to the user as text reports on-screen, screen prompts, or even voice messages as to other routes available thus avoiding any possible delay.

Accuracy of a  navigation unit is maintained  by the engine speed sensor signal if GPS reception is lost within built-up areas or  tunnels. Without these signals the mapping display can become erratic and un-usable. Portable units have no speed sensor facility.

The Gyroscope in a navigation system is the device that senses lateral movement of the vehicle and should be mounted at the lowest point. If the Gyroscope is to high (as in a windscreen mounted portable unit) then suspension (vehicle rotation) errors will occur. These types of error will be more predominant at high speed cornering such as roundabouts and slip roads and the-like, where-by, the vehicle is seen on the navigation screen to be driving off-road or in the wrong direction entirely. Fixed navigation systems as detailed do not suffer from this effects in the way that portable units do.

We do not provide replacement navigation discs or installation quotations to vehicle outside of the UK. We do not supply navigation screens.
