Upgrade
of existing the navigation screen to UK
Television reception capacity is achieved by installation of automotive TV tuners
(analogue and/or digital) located
out-of-sight in the boot or other suitable areas, connected to suitable
Antenna
with operation by remote control.

Connection to the navigation
screen is via direct
composite video and
audio feeds on a Japanese JDM (Japanese
Domestic Manufacture) vehicle
or thru bypassing electronically, parts of
the AV system using on an interface adaptor
on a non JDM car i.e. a UK specified vehicle.
Reception is
subject to signal strength at where the
vehicle is located. We do not recommend
operation whilst mobile.
Television upgrade does not
change other systems in the vehicle such
as the operation of satellite navigation
system.
Usual Hifi operation is maintained
and
is unaffected by the installation, like-wise,
the normal on-screen display of vehicle
information such as
air-conditioning status is still available to the user.
Although upgrades use the
existing screen for
display, re-programming hardware or
'converting' the existing in-built screen
box
directly is not the usual upgrade procedure.
TV reception is only suitable in a strong
signal area and when stationary.
Drive and View can install TV tuners
and hardware to most makes of
vehicle including
Lexus, Toyota,
Mazda, Nissan, Honda, Isuzu and Mitsubishi
with equipment from manufactures such as
Soundlinx, Highway, Panasonic, Clarion.
Pricing reflects different
hardware options and features -
such
a diversity reception tuners.

The original transmitter planning for
analogue television was intended for
stationary home reception, where clear
coverage was
achievable using
directional antennas
at roof-top height.
Antennas used for TV reception in
automobiles however, are usually mounted at
much lower levels. Not only is it impossible
to build antennas with the same elevation,
but directional antennas cannot be used in
such applications because the direction from which the transmission signal is received
continuously varies as the vehicle travels
down the road, additionally, the vehicle may
pass from one coverage area to next. The signals that
are received may also become superimposed due to
scattering and reflections from buildings
and other vehicles. In open areas signal
strength can exceed a domestic installation,
and a more robust reception is achieved
using an analogue tuner as apposed to a
digital one, picture quality can thus vary
between poor to excellent depending on
location and correct coverage area.

Can I pick up SKY In Car?
The term SKY is normally used when
describing the full complement of SKY
channel availability. The complete SKY package of channels is only available on
Cable and Satellite. Satellite Television
reception in car is achieved using specific
mobile satellite antenna. These types of
system are only suitable for
RUVs and larger vehicles but do however
allow viewing of SKY channels and others on
the move.
Terrestrial Digital TV
broadcasts do however carry
some SKY channels
on the Freeview platform. The Sky channels
available include SKY SPORTS NEWS and SKY
NEWS

What is (Scan) Diversity
reception?
Normal Television
reception is via a single aerial, however fading of signals when
mobile will occur. Scan diversity reception helps stop these signal nulls
- a technique used by Stage, Broadcast, Telecom
users . With
scan diversity, the system switches rapidly
between more than one antenna it has at its disposal,
selecting the antenna that delivers the
highest reception level (although not
necessarily the best signal quality) and
also helps overcome 'Doppler' effect making
it possible to achieve better reception in
automotive TVs even when the vehicle is
moving at speeds over 70Mph.

The
Lexus Soarer is typical of the
many Japanese vehicles imported to
the UK from the 1990s onwards and
capable of having TV reception
conversation upgrades by
Driveandview. Prices for Freeview TV
installations start from £199. Designed in
California but built in Japan,
it was heralded as the feature rich
luxury cruiser to out class the
Mercedes of its day. The panicle of
the Soarer range, the UZZ32 boasts
active self levelling suspension,
diversity navigation radio receivers
and LCD touch screen television.

Where necessary Drive and view use
additional active automotive TV antenna to
suit budget, installation, aesthetics and
reception criteria - which inevitably means
a compromise.

Whilst tests show that a
suitably mounted diversity roof aerials can
perform better than say, a single internal
film aerial mounted on a side window or
windscreen - the internal mounted device is
often the chosen option purely on looks
alone.
An 'active' aerial is one that has a
built in amplifier to reduce noise and
maximise signal. We do not fit
magnetic, or non active antenna as there
performance is normally extremely poor.
